Wilderness Photography: Washington Pass at Night – NCI Class

September 1, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 11:55 pm

THIS EVENT IS SPONSORED BY THE NORTH CASCADES INSTITUTE. Click here to register.

In the grandeur of the North Cascades, moonless nights with clear skies offer fantastic opportunities to capture vivid images of the galaxy.

Join photographer Andy Porter on this specially-scheduled evening expedition to capture images of the Milky Way on this moonless night. We’ll begin the adventure with a short evening workshop on night photography at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center. Then we’ll head to Washington Pass where, under the towering peaks of Liberty Bell and the Early Winter Spires, Andy will guide us in capturing our own images of the night sky.

Andy is an award-winning photographer based in Skagit Valley. His North Cascades photographs have been featured in the Smithsonian Museum and the book The North Cascades: Finding Beauty and Renewal in the Wild Nearby, published in 2014 by The Mountaineers.

You will need to bring your own camera equipment including a DSLR camera, wide-angle lens (preferably 14 to 24 mm), sturdy tripod and a cable release.

There is an option to stay in our guest lodges at the Environmental Learning Center after our nocturnal adventure, or a commuter rate is available if you prefer to camp or stay elsewhere.

  1. Hi Andy,
I am signed up for the class on Thursday.
The forecast looks pretty bad for sky photography.
    Is there a plan B?
