Enchantments and Larch

The combination of Enchantments and Larch is spectacular.

The Enchantments is an area in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the North Cascades of Washington State.

At an elevation of between 5,000 and 8,000 feet the Enchantments Basin is filled with small emerald green lakes and tarns. Early October sees the splendor and color of the larch as their needles turn bright orange.

This spectacle is a sight to behold, the golden needles juxtaposed with the emerald green lakes and blue skies…

Mountain goats frequent the higher lakes.

There are two ways to access the Enchantments, both are strenuous. Day hikes into the area are possible for the fit, but to really enjoy the beauty, you will need to spend a few days. Info on the area and permits for camping here.

If you’re planning a visit to the North Cascades and you love photography you may want to consider a North Cascades Photo Tour!

There are a wide range of Photo Tours available, depending upon your time available.

Drive-In Photo Tours are where we visit scenic viewpoints to capture the natural beauty of the area with little to no hiking.

Or you can arrange for a North Cascades Day Hike Photo Tour or an Overnight Photo Tour. Here we don a day pack or backpack and hike into the wilderness to photograph some of the North Cascades Backcountry.
