Skagit Valley Barn Sunset

Skagit Valley Barn Sunset The skies above Skagit Valley can truly be glorious. The flow of moisture-laden air moves west from the ocean watering the valley. Magnificent clouds of all shapes and sizes scurry towards the mountains where they dump the bulk of their precipitation. Skies here change fast, especially in spring and fall.

Getting out to take pictures involves a good amount of luck: will the right clouds be in place when the sun rises or sets? It’s best to be ready late in the afternoon with your camera, so when the window opens, you can go.

This is what happened yesterday, we had a wonderful day and the sky was filled with white puffy clouds, I headed west towards a expansive green field to take pictures and as the day got later I decided to make a jump further west, to the causeway over the Samish River.

But on the way I passed by a wonderful old barn and stopped to visit her. It had been a while since our last meeting and she looked wonderful.

The golden light and colors were fantastic.

I shot with a Canon 6D camera, using a 14mm Rokinon lens. I originally go the 14mm lens for night sky imaging, but find it is fantastic for landscapes (and skyscapes). It gives such a wide depth of field, the focus is sharp and, if you can get close to your subject, gives a warm and vibrant feel to the scene. Interested in a guided Skagit Photo Tour?
