Just Before Sunrise

These three images are from the Winchester Mountain Lookout at about 5am. I spent the evening in the lookout on Wednesday night, went to sleep at about 9pm and awoke at 4am to check the sky. The moon had set just a little earlier and the sky was mostly clear, producing these wonderful colors.

The Lookout had been shuttered for the winter, so the flaps could not be raised. I decided to invite my friends to sit on the door step.

Just Before Sunrise

Someone had the bright idea to set up their one-person tent as a foreground for another shot. By then the colors of sunrise had appeared on the horizon.

The next New Moon is October 12th. I am doing Night Sky Photo Tours on October 10, 11, 12 and 13th. If you’d like to learn how to take pictures like this, click here for more info!
