January 18, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
FreeNight Sky Photography with Andy Porter
Concrete Theatre – 45920 Main St, Concrete
11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Free admission
Andy Porter is a local photographer well-known for his images of wilderness and wildlife. One of his new interests is night sky photography.
Join Andy for a lively discussion and demonstration of what can happen when you stay up late! Held at the Concrete Theatre, you’ll be able to view his images on the silver screen and get all the details about how he captured these photos. Even if you’re only a casual photographer, or
not a photo buff at all, you’ll be awestruck by what you see.
Andy says, “Photography for me has always been bound with outdoor adventure. I never had an interest in taking pictures until I started to go backpacking. Then it seemed like a necessity,
you know, the packing list was: backpack, tent, camera, sleeping bag, stove, food…it never occurred to me that you could go out on a trip with a way to capture the images. Of course
taking pictures, good ones, is harder than it looks! But once you start to get the hang of it, what a joy!”
According to Andy, capturing stunning images of the Milky Way is surprisingly easy. All you need is a decent DSLR, a wide angle lens and few more simple tools and you’re good to go. The
only real difficulty is getting the convergence of a night with no moon and no clouds.
