Skyscape Photography
Skyscape Photography
It dawned on me the other day that I have migrated from a focus on landscape photography to skyscape photography
I used to concentrate on finding a cool location, hoping for clear skies I would head out to capture images of a place: mountains, lakes, flowers.
As I progressed the focus shifted subtly, I started looking to add any available Elements of Coolness to my images.
And the most likely Element is sky.
Slowly I morphed from Land to Sky.
I am fortunate to live in the Skagit Valley, where stark mountains, verdant fields and abundant water all merge.
And the skies! Skagit skies are dark and brooding, bright and airy, gray and colorful all within a few hours time. Spring and fall tend to see the most rapid changes.
The North Cascades scrape the sky, holding the clouds still, extracting all that life giving water, cascading down through the forests…
To the ocean, where myriad birds flock and sing…
All under magnificent skies!
And then darkness arrives, and stars sparkle, the arc of the Milky Way reminds you of a distant past and dreams of more skies over distant lands.
So, yes, I am a sky photographer, looking to add a few elements of interest in the foreground…
