Fall Colors at Twin Lakes
Fall Colors at Twin Lakes
Last week afforded another opportunity to visit the Twin Lakes area. The day was a mix of clouds and sun. Cooler temps made for perfect hiking weather. We navigated successfully the treacherous road from Highway 542 to Twin Lakes and started the short steep hike up to the Winchester Mountain Lookout.
The colors of the Mountain Ash and huckleberries were outstanding and the low angle of light illuminated them wonderfully.
There are many shoulders along the way to stop for views and pictures.
As we arrived at the lookout a storm system blew by. There were short bursts of rainy followed by sun. The rainbows kept coming!
Fall Colors, North Cascades and Night Sky Photo Tours are available. Here is a link to see all the Photography Tours offered and register.
Sunset arrived and the skies cleared a bit affording wonderful views of Mount Larrabee to the north.
The night brought wind and cold. We slept in the lookout and arose at 4:30am to mostly clear skies. Capturing images of the stars just before sunrise produced some stunning colors.
Early in the morning we hiked down through the clouds and sun, very happy to be alive!
