A big part of capturing stunning landscape images is simply having a cool spot to shoot from. Of course lighting is everything outdoors. Mornings and evenings the low angle and color of light create sumptuous scenes. But where to go? Often the best light just sort of arrives, unannounced, at the end of the day. Or you hedge your bets and awaken early and start going some where before the sunrise.

I am always so excited when I find a new spot. Whether its a barn, a field of wheat, an overlook or an abandoned truck, you need to have a list of go-to locations not far from where you live.

Samish River

One such spot for me is the causeway bridge over the Samish River along the Bayview – Edison Road. A student from one of my classes showed me the spot.

I don’t know how many times I’ve been back there, maybe 20?

The river curves west and the setting sun drops right above the mouth of the river. House boats are moored along the shore. Lush, long green grass adds texture.
